Amazing recycled clothes art

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Some old clothes after serving their time on our backs end up in a dumpster to slowly bio-degrade. Ok, not THAT slowly. Nice people from  guerra de la paz decided to raise awareness of how many old clothes are being thrown away and also do something cool and creative about them. See for yourselves after the break.

Banksy directs “Simpsons” couch gag

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

The most recent Simpsons episode had a couch gag that was a little different than usual. It was directed by british artist Banksy, who’s known for his strong views on the society turning a blind eye to a lot of mistreating going on. This time it was the simpsons being an evil corporation (or their merchandise to be precise) while lots of factory workers were treated like machines. This is of course true with most modern products (see apple’s factories in China and the suicides there) but the Simpsons’ producers have balls of steel to put something like this up. Good!

Facebook now!

facebook_now
We cannot deny the unbelievable reach that facebook has gained in the last year or so. It’s so big right now, it could be in the top 5 countries in the world, if it ever became a country. But all the bullshit aside, the guys at facebook must’ve realised that despite the potential, they’re not-really-earning-a-lot just like youtube. Sure, people love it, people use it, a lot of things are going on there. But the marketing potential was hard to use. Typical banner campaigns would’ve made the site bloated and “just like everyone else” and they didn’t want that. In fact I think that the lack of typical advertising was also one of the things that brought people to facebook in the first place. They realized that it’s a one-of-a-kind place in the web and wanted to be a part of it. But no, they don’t want to pay a fee. So what now ?

We’re starting to see facebook positioning (SEO for facebook would be FO – facebook optimization, or FPO – facebook popularity optimization since it’s measured in fans rather than clicks)

I am currently working on a PDF based document on how to use facebook to it’s full potential when marketing internet content (the test subject is gonna be this blog).
More on that soon, but there’s a big change coming in how we promote things online, so drop your banners and skyscrapers, burn the billboards and put your face in the book!

Bing/Google maps API free idea giveaway ;)

So here’s the deal. I’m not really a microsoft person, but I checked out their “isometric view” of the maps (here’s New York) and I instantly thought of one thing – Sim City! First of all the idea itself is pretty awesome to show it this way, the perspective makes the cities more memorable as a landscape, rather than just a top-view photo.  But what can be done with it ?

Well for once – using the API which I think would be given out anyway – a new type of social sim-city style game could be created.  Let’s for one moment think that we can “destroy it all” and put nice, green grass everywhere. Then we’ll have a few types of buildings, some roads, other elements, and combine it to create a district of our own, based on the natural landscape of our city, with it’s rivers, islands, whatever. Other people can of course join the fun and start building a district of their own in the same city. Maybe even a better city-planner could be found that way (choosing the best guy for the job while working on a semi-real thing would probably make more sense than choosing him based on just promises). Possibilities are endless.

And yes – of course google is doing something similar as well – letting people build their own buildings and all. So a bunch of free API’s from both of the big fish could actually give someone with the guts to do such project, plenty of choices.

Cool idea – youtube doubler mashup

A pretty cool idea for mashing up youtube clips for some stunning results. Ideas can include adding spoken-word videos to instrumental music videos (dance music anyone?) and many, many others.
It’s clear that simple ideas are a great thing, and it’s odd that it took so long to create something like that. Thumbs up.
